It is often said that IP technology has the ability to transform the enterprise. The list of benefits to working in a truly IP environment encompasses a vast array of communications improvements, including many of the following: convergence, scalability, flexibility, common management interfaces, simplification of moves, adds, and changes (MACs), global connectivity and stronger Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery options. The end result of a true IP solution is cutting edge technology that leads to an improved competitive position and overall savings.
Has IP delivered? To this point, it is safe to say that for many enterprises, the answer is no, not in every way. In the case of the financial markets, there are even more considerations than the standard concern of integrating the PBX and the data networks. The complete integration of the complex trader voice turret system, with the back office PBX and the data network is a daunting task. The voice traffic requires priority so that no call is ever dropped. Each user workstation on the turret system is far more complex than any typical office phone environment. With the need for numerous speed dials, hoot‘n’holler lines, private lines, multiple hand sets and the fast paced working environment, it is easy to see why the turret environment demands a specialized solution and staff to administer.
Isn’t the financial environment where IP would make the most sense? Users need remote access to their lines when they travel. In the current TDM environment, the lead time to provision a line makes this impractical, but in a truly IP environment, all of the speed dials, private lines, hoot lines and voice recording can be accessible from any point on the globe. MACs are costly and complex in a TDM system, requiring reconfigurations, cabling and mad dashes around the office to deliver, but in an IP environment, the identity and profile of each user can be easily moved to a new location with little effort. In an IP environment, the number of users on the system could be highly scaleable supporting as few as 5 users, but capable of managing as many as 10,000 users.
If an IP technology can deliver these things, then perhaps it would make sense to integrate the back office PBX systems with the turret system. By converging those two similar applications, the knowledge base required to support telephony enterprise-wide becomes one, making it more efficient. Now, the ability to prepare disaster recovery options would be simplified and strengthened under one complete umbrella. A truly IP technology would allow all users on the system to have access to all of their dial tone, private lines, hoot‘n’holler lines, etc. An IP technology that allows an enterprise to plan for an event in which workers worldwide could work from remote locations would give that enterprise a tactical advantage.
If an IP technology can deliver on these promises, at a cost of ownership that is less than any current communications system offered in the market today, then the final goal can be achieved. A dramatic cost savings combined with an improved competitive position in the marketplace.
American Telesis is introducing the first truly IP turret that can deliver on all of these promises – AT. AT is being developed with IP Blue Software Solutions for the Cisco Systems Call Manager platform. IP Blue is recognized as one of the leading strategic software and application development partners in the Cisco Technology Developer Program and IP Blue is considered an expert in VoIP telephony technologies and software products.
American Telesis is incorporating software that has been in development over the last 5 years. AT is built on software that has been tested and certified as Cisco compatible and that software is currently being utilized as the standard VoIP solution for one of the largest investment banks in the world.
AT offers features and functionality that are not currently available on any other TDM or IP Capable turret system.
• Hoot‘n’Holler circuit integration and built in speaker control
• SIP Trunking
• Directory integration, Outlook and calendar integration
• Instant Messaging capabilities
• Multiple shared line appearances across multiple turrets
• Non blocking architecture
See the full feature list in the American Telesis True IP Turret System brochure.
AT Family of Integrated Trading Turret Devices and Applications
AT-HT Traditional desktop trading turret in both utilization and function
AT-ST Soft client turret application that provides mobility and flexibility to end users anywhere. Ideally suited for backup sites, “lite” applications are perfect for users whether they are working remotely, wirelessly or in the back office. AT-ST is the perfect Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Planning vehicle, providing all the services at a fraction of the cost when configuring off-site locations.
AT-MT PDA turret application that is ideal for mobile users, campus environments or exchange floors.
AT is not burdened by a legacy turret platform making maintenance and support cumbersome and expensive. The inherent capability of an IP technology allows us to push the envelope to design and engineer a system that is truly IP from the ground up.
AT can support TDM private lines, but customers are not limited to the TDM realm in any other way. The Cisco platform is a tried and true industry leader in IP Telephony and has provided the perfect launching ground for the next leader in voice trading technology.
